Music 5Rhythms is not in itself dependent on any particular kind of music. It is all about consciously engaging with the moving body and the breath. It can be done in silence. Different teachers use different genres of music, in very different ways. Some are professional DJs on the dance scene, some simply play a track at a time. Some play world beats, some trance, some rock, some pop, some classical, some work with live percussion. Some almost always play music without lyrics. If you want to dance the 5Rhythms, then often you don't have a choice, unless you're lucky enough to live in an area where there are several teachers offering different classes. If you do have a choice, then its worth finding a teacher who uses their music in a way that works for you. Personally, music is at the centre of my experience of dancing and teaching 5Rhythms. It's been at the centre of my world since I began listening to John Peel as a teenager. And since then, my tastes have broadened considerably, and what I offer at my classes, is the music that I love, that inspires me to move. (continued...) |
