flowing

flowing is generally where we begin, the first of the 5Rhythms. It's all about connecting with the support of the ground, usually (but not always) through our feet. To be truly free, we need the support of the ground beneath us as we move.

flowing is continuous movement, where we seek to feel the weight of our bodies in motion, to follow the momentum, and let it carry us. As the name suggests, we follow what happens, where our weight shifts, how the movement unfolds. At its simplest, we breathe in, relax, and surrender to our feet.

Music for flowing is (as with all the rhythms) wide and varied; some of my favourite flow tracks are Massive Attack's Teardrop, or Leonard Cohen's Boogie Street, or Patti Smith's Wing.
